The Pend Oreille Players began in 1997 as a committee of CREATE, a non-profit organization based in Newport, Washington. Initially the Players were a loosely formed group of actors with a desire to bring community theatre to northeast Washington and northern Idaho. In their first seven years, the Players performed plays, participated in theatre workshops, conducted summer art camps, organized one-act play festivals, and provided after school programs for area children.

In 2004 the Pend Oreille Players incorporated in the State of Washington, now known as Pend Oreille Players Association (POPA). Also in 2004, POPA received its 501(c)(3) designation from the federal government.

Following its formation as a non-profit organization, POPA performed at various locations in the community. Since 2004, POPA has produced over 35 plays, musicals, youth productions, theatre workshops, youth drama camps, reviews and talent shows.

In October 2008 POPA leased a building in Newport, Washington and began renovations to create a performing arts theatre and events center for the community. The first production in the newly renovated Pend Oreille Playhouse was Gilbert & Sullivan’s The Sorcerer in May of 2009.

Volunteer!
About Us
The Pend Oreille Playhouse Community Theatre is run by a dedicated group of volunteers. The common thread that brings us together is a love of theatre and the desire to bring the magic of theatre to our community.

This is our 13th season. Our schedule now has more productions and events than ever, so we need your help. We're looking for contributions of all talents and energies, as well as donations and sponsorships!

There are a number of things that you can volunteer your time for:

•Productions: Cast, crew, lights and sound
•Office Help at the Playhouse Box Office
•Building Construction: These needs change daily as we renovate

Please call our office at (509) 671-3389 or e-mail us at mail@pendoreilleplayers.org to find out about the opportunities available.
